What you as an educator can do:
- Make academic achievement for every student every day your top priority in teaching and learning.
- Help make your school a learning center for families and the larger community.
- Build a school environment where students, staff, parents, and citizens feel welcome.
- Evaluate whether your school's practices are helping all students improve.
- If your school's resources fall short, furnish the leadership that will secure additional support.
- Establish study groups to learn about and share promising practices that promote learning for all students.
- Develop materials that describe to parents and other citizens how they can help improve schools in ways that target student achievement and support teaching.
- Help others understand why academic standards are important and how the standards drive what happens in classrooms.
- Develop a plan that markets your school to the larger community.
- Find new and different ways to communicate what is going on in your classrooms to parents and other citizens.
