Community 2.0
Government by the people (American democracy) remains elusive for many communities, but through the work of Community 2.0, you and your citizens can connect through meaningful conversations as partners. The ultimate purpose of Community 2.0 is to create practical solutions to challenging issues. Community 2.0 provides the connection that every city needs – helping you to listen effectively so that citizens and local government work together to improve the quality of life in your community.
What is Community 2.0?
Community 2.0 is a menu of services to help city officials proactively address current and future challenges. Community 2.0 can serve as a direct conduit to active citizen engagement to solve community problems or prevent potential problems. Community 2.0 is good government at its most basic level – people to people.
What does Community 2.0 Do?
The NewCities Institute has been on the cutting edge of citizen-driven governance since its inception in 2001. Community 2.0 can bring transparency and accountability to your project or issue. Our work in communities has led to citizen-initiated projects, expansion of local leadership capacity, government transparency, and improved dialogue between local leaders and local citizens.
Community 2.0 can provide training programs on the proper roles and responsibilities of local boards; create comprehensive strategic plans that are practical and easy to implement; develop a plan of action directed at a single issue; conduct board retreats to build teamwork capacity; provide resources to address “green” issues and opportunities; train literacy coaches to mentor youth and develop an employable workforce; and bring together community leaders to discuss and solve community problems.
Each community can find solutions for their citizen driven issues through:
• understanding roles and responsibilities
• intentional development
• influential listening
